I want to become God’s child. How do I actually “do” that?
To understand how to receive new life through Jesus, we will start with just two scriptures.
The first is John 1:12-13
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
God doesn’t force anyone into His family. But to people who believe in Jesus and receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God.
When you accept that gift, you are reborn in your spirit. Your body, mind, emotions and circumstances do not suddenly change. But your spirit—your heart, the deepest part of you—is reborn as God’s Holy Spirit comes to live in you.
Jesus’ Dad is now your Dad. You become part of His family and start to experience His kingdom. His Spirit gives life to you. Jesus’ blood cleanses you from sin. You are a child of God, forever.
The second is Romans 10:9
if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
God doesn’t make it complicated for people to receive salvation. He has made it very simple. You believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead. You confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
“Confess” means to speak in agreement. “Lord” means the one in charge. Jesus is Lord already, but you are the one who calls Jesus your Lord. Jesus saves everyone who calls on Him as Lord.
When you receive new life through Jesus, let your mouth speak from your heart. You can simply say, “Jesus, You’re my Lord. God, You’re my Dad. Holy Spirit, now You live in me.”
Now you can speak to God from your heart: what you are thankful for, what you need, where in your life you need forgiveness and freedom, what you need to forgive, how you want your new life to be different from your old life. Your Father in heaven cares for you, and He’s listening!
If you’ve prayed to become God’s child through Jesus, or if you have questions, please contact us at Celebration and we will be happy to help you with your next steps!
What should I expect on Sunday morning?
From 8:45 to 9:00 AM and again from 10:15 to 10:30 AM, we serve coffee, juices, rolls, and bagels. At 9:00 and at 10:30, the music starts. It's mostly contemporary, with a mix of guitars, keyboard, drums, and a lively worship team.
What should I wear?
You'll find folks dressed in jeans, or khakis—mostly casual, in other words, though some like to dress up.
How big is your congregation?
Each Sunday we have, on average, 200 people attending the morning services.
What do you offer for young children?
We know your children are special. You will find a cheery, well-run nursery for children up to age three, in case you need that. We also offer Sunday classes for children ages 4 years through 5th grade at both services. Children beyond nursery age stay with us for music and a special children's time, where they meet with the pastor for a story and a blessing. Then, during the message time, they will be in a class especially prepared for them.
Do you have anything for middle school and high school students?
We have a Sunday morning class for 6th through 8th grades at the 10:30 a.m. service. We also have many opportunities for students to get involved including High School and Middle School youth groups, as well as being able to work across the community in a variety of outreach programs. Please check the Middle or High School Youth pages under the Ministries tab for current meeting times and monthly schedules. Everyone is welcome!
I'm struggling with some personal problems. Is help available?
Yes. Many people, including Christians, struggle through difficult periods in their life. We want to support you and encourage healing in your life however possible. Specific care groups are available as well as the opportunity to meet with the pastor to discuss your problem in confidence.
How do I get involved?
One of the best ways to start is to take a class, join a small group, or choose to serve. Take a moment to look for a place to serve: from helping with Sunday School, baking, childcare, crafts, creating, construction, cleaning, prayer, singing, greeting, set-up of worship, audio-visual, organizing, phone calling... the list goes on.
How do I become a member?
We offer membership classes about once a quarter. During our meeting, you will have a chance to hear about the core values and beliefs of Celebration Covenant as well as clearly understand member expectations. You will also have an opportunity to explore your personal spiritual gifts. You are not required to join after attending a membership class – the choice is yours.
What if I haven't been to church in a long time?
We're glad you're considering coming to visit our church. We have a friendly and welcoming environment and services that are easy to follow and understand.
How important is prayer?
Prayer undergirds every purpose of the church. We believe prayer is essential to a Spirit-led and Spirit-empowered congregation. Prayer keeps us in right relationships with God and guides us in making sound decisions.
What are your beliefs about the Bible?
We affirm the centrality of the word of God. We believe the Bible is the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct. The dynamic, transforming power of the word of God directs the church in the life of each Christian. This reliance on the Bible leads us to affirm both men and women as ordained ministers and at every level of leadership. It is the reason we pursue ethnic diversity in our church and is the inspiration for every act of compassion, mercy, and justice.
What if I want to receive Holy Communion?
We affirm the church as a fellowship of believers. Membership in the Covenant Church is by confession of personal faith in Jesus Christ and is open to all believers. We serve open communion on the first Sunday of every month.
What are your beliefs about baptism?
We observe baptism as a sacrament commanded by Jesus. We offer the choice of either infant or believer baptism. Children may be baptized or dedicated. If you would like to be baptized or have a child that you would like to have baptized or dedicated, please contact us and we can discuss it with you.
What is your faith statement?
In the Covenant denomination our Faith Statement is called our Affirmations. You can find them by following this link to the denominations web page.
